The supreme ideal of education - perfection in life - is being offered in over 150 schools and campuses across India, to well over 102,000 students of Maharishi Consciousness-Based Education. In addition, there are almost 50 distance education centres offering this pure and applied knowledge of the Veda, which has been brought to light by His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

In one province of India, these schools were established by a unanimous Act of the Legislative Assembly of Madhya Pradesh and recognised by the University Grants Commission.

At each school all students practise Maharishi’s Transcendental Meditation together to experience the state of self-referral consciousness, Transcendental Consciousness, creating an environment ideal for learning. The students gain a natural inner peace, become more receptive to knowledge, exhibit greater alertness and radiate bliss and friendliness to their classmates and teachers.

Recently, this bliss and alertness was exhibited when thousands of students competed in the National Athletic meet held in Tantia Taupe Stadium, in Bhopal, India. Saluting the competitors were students from across India - from Kashmir to South India - performing welcome dances from their local areas. Each group of dancers wore different, brightly coloured dress.

Medals at these events were presented by government leaders. Yashodher Raj Sindhyathe, State President for Sports was present at the games, as were the National Board of Directors from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Vidya Mandir schools, including Dr Girish Varma, chairman of Maharishi Vidya Mandir Schools group.

Events included long jump, high jump and running race. Fourteen year-old Kruti Gupta from Maharishi Karmal Convent School, a high ranking ‘All India School’ in Jamshedpur, Bhopal, won a gold sports medal running the 100 metre race in 13 seconds. She was awarded a generous scholarship.

Asif, age 19, ran the 800 metre race for Ratanpur’s Maharishi Vidya Mandir School, winning the gold medal. On the 3rd day of events, Maharishi’s Vidya Mandir’s 16 year-old Gurav Kumar won the bronze medal for finishing the 3,000 metre race in 9.16.9. From Bilga, 19 year-old Karam Jeet Singh also won a bronze medal in the 3,000 metre race. Confidence among the students competing was very high.

It is interesting to note that the regular practice of Transcendental Meditation improves mind-body coordination, and high achievement in athletic events is a common occurance among students of Maharishi’s schools around the world.
