Maharishi’s Vedic Science—establishing an intimate connection between the individual and the universe

In his book Maharishi Vedic University: Introduction, Maharishi made a comparison between the principles of gaining knowledge in modern science and Vedic Science and the influence of individual life.

Please also see the first and second articles about this comparison.

Modern Science
    • Isolates the individual from his environment.

Vedic Science
    • Establishes a very intimate connection between the individual and the universe.

Modern Science
    • Overshadows the individual's natural ability of cosmic comprehension due to its dedication to isolated areas of knowledge.

Vedic Science
    • Develops the individual to lovingly own the whole world: 'The whole world is my family' is the Vedic ideal of life, the ideal of any enlightened man in any part of the world—which brings fulfilment to the centuries-old cherished ideal of 'Help thy neighbour.'

Modern Science
    • Inspires the seeker of knowledge to focus on isolated areas for many years, continuously depriving the seeker of knowledge of his natural tendency to look around and gain more and more knowledge.

Vedic Science
    • Practically creates the repeated experience of transcending, spontaneously taking the awareness to the finest point of wakefulness, and the experience of unboundedness—unbounded pure wakefulness along with the point value of wakefulness.

Modern Science
    • Reveals that in the pursuit of knowledge whatever knowledge one gains, that knowledge itself reveals that there is yet more to be known.
    • This makes the path of knowledge endlessly long, and fulfilment out of reach. Permanent lack of fulfilment is the natural outcome of modern science-based education.

Vedic Science
    • Offers repeated experience of transcending, taking the awareness to the finest point of wakefulness and the experience of unboundedness—the Unified Field of Natural law.
    • This experience, repeated through regular practice, gives rise to the natural ability of comprehending infinity within a point. This gives rise to the ability to enjoy every isolated experience while remaining submerged within the unbounded ocean of bliss—the self-referral, dynamic nature of pure wakefulness.
    • This is the basis of life in freedom, life in bliss, life in its full potential of eternal silence and eternal dynamism—life in full enlightenment—life in the liveliness of all possibilities.
