Speaking in October 1975, in the United States, Maharishi said that the Transcendental Meditation Technique 'provides profound relaxation and supports both the mental and physical well-being of an athlete, allowing him to play his best.'
'Mind-body coordination is at the basis of championship in any field,' Maharishi said. 'An athlete knows that his mind must have deep coordination with his body in order to become a champion.'
The practice of Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation greatly improves mind-body coordination. Transcendental Meditation is basic to life, as it develops the full potential of consciousness, the basis of all progress and success.
During the Transcendental Meditation Technique the activity of the mind settles down, giving deep rest to the mind and body, which releases stress and removes fatigue.
'By quietening mental activity,' Maharishi explained, 'Transcendental Meditation allows the mind to experience Transcendental Consciousness. This is a fourth state of consciousness, a state of unlimited potential of the mind in unbounded awareness. This experience makes the body healthier and more efficient.
'The role of an athlete is to exhibit greater potential of body and mind. In the field of life the desire to grow and show greater ability is natural. The practice of Transcendental Meditation, by developing body and mind, will allow everyone to rise to the spirit of an athlete and be at his best.'
