At the Latin American Congress of Quality in Education annual awards event, 400 principals from the best schools in 22 countries were present for the awards given to schools for quality of education and academic excellence.

Several of the schools in Latin America where Consciousness-Based Education programmes have been introduced, received awards. Two principals in particular felt that the accomplishment of receiving the award would not be complete without an explanation of Consciousness-Based Education. The National Leader of Maharishi's organization that teaches the Transcendental Meditation Programme in Ecuador therefore accompanied the principals to the awards ceremony to support their presentations.

Following these two principals' presentations, there was lengthy question and answer period and immediately following, about 100 schools from 11 countries requested Consciousness-Based Education for their own schools right away. This is in addition to the 90 schools and 20 universities in Latin America already using Consciousness-Based Education.

Raja Luis said he felt 'that the fact the principals gave the presentation to their peers gave it a lot of credibility and objectivity'.

In attendance was a major leader of one Latin American country who would like to introduce Consciousness-Based Education in all the schools of that country simultaneously.

Students win awards from the Science Commiitte of Peru
Raja Luis also reported that two 18-year old students from Peru, who became teachers of Transcendental Meditation at a young age, won prestigious awards from the Science Committee of Peru, which awards young innovators in the fields of science.

Raja Luis said that just as we frequently hear about Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment students in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, winning top awards, these students' awards in Peru were for their presentation on how Consciousness-Based Education develops total brain functioning, the most important breakthrough in education.

The two students' Consciousness-Based Education project was then selected as a finalist in the World Science Fair, which gathers the 100 best science projects from youth around the world. Raja Luis felt it was significant that they were among the finalists, and leaders from many countries, including the President of Peru, and ministers of education would see this project on Consciousness-Based Education.

Following the report by Raja Luis, Dr Peter Swan, host of Maharishi's Global Family Chat, commented that through their own experience of transcending, which enlivens the full potential of the brain, students themselves are now bringing the value of Consciousness-Based Education to the awareness of the nation's leaders.
