In his address to this conference Maharishi said that the present system of education does not provide knowledge about the subject, the knower; without knowledge of the knower, knowledge of the object is baseless. Baseless knowledge can never be fulfilling or complete.

It is everyone’s experience that the more one knows about a subject, the more one finds a greater field of the unknown lying ahead. ‘This is why, in the present system of education, knowledge remains incomplete,’ Maharishi said.

By expanding the awareness of the knower to unboundedness, the Science of Creative Intelligence and its practical aspect, Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Programme, provide complete knowledge. The task of education should be to produce fully developed citizens who are using their full mental potential and living fullness of life.

‘Knowledge is different in different states of
consciousness,’ Maharishi then explained. ‘As long as the ultimate state of consciousness, Unity Consciousness, is not reached, knowledge of the object will always be varying and unreliable.

‘Education must develop that ultimate non-changing state of consciousness, and then knowledge will be reliable, profound, and satisfying to the knower.’

Time does not allow one to gain the knowledge of all disciplines and on that basis become efficient in all fields of life. ‘What one must do,’ Maharishi continued, ‘is capture the home of all knowledge—pure consciousness—from where all streams of knowledge spring.

‘When awareness opens to the home of all knowledge, the individual feels at home with everything; this makes the individual universal and confers on him the benefit of all knowledge—the state of fulfilment.’

Maharishi explained that deep within everything in creation is that same element which is deep within the individual mind—unboundedness consciousness. Transcendental Meditation opens our awareness to that unbounded level of life and thereby makes a man at home with everything.

‘Through the Science of Creative Intelligence,’ Maharishi said, ‘the knower will thrive in the full value of knowledge, and all his actions will be waves of the complete value of life, waves of bliss.’
