On 4  April 1982, globally televised by satellite from Mentmore Towers in England, Maharishi inaugurated Maharishi University of Natural Law for 108 countries on all continents. Maharishi said that this inauguration arose because of the need of the time for life everywhere to be lived in accordance with the full potential of Natural Law.

At that time over two million people had learnt Transcendental Meditation, and through the twice daily experience of Transcendental Consciousness—the home of all the Laws of Nature—were growing in higher states of consciousness. The growth of consciousness is the full blossoming of Natural Law in one's awareness.

The rise of Natural Law in the life of individuals and society had created great interest in the scientific community, resulting in hundreds of scientific experiments in many countries around the world to verify the growth of the full potential of Natural Law through Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation and Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme

During the Inauguration, Maharishi explained that physics has revealed the totality of Natural Law residing in the unmanifest—the Unified Field of Natural Law—as a field of perfect order and infinite correlation. 'This is the field of pure knowledge, from where Natural Law operates and governs the 'classical,' or relative field of life,' Maharishi said.

Modern physics has brought to light the existence of the Unified Field of Natural Law, whose properties are ultimately the qualities of consciousness. For example, the property of self-referral found in the Unified Field is the ability of the absolute field of consciousness to know itself. 'By probing deep into the objective field of reality, modern science has thus reached the goal of all objectivity—the field of pure subjectivity,' Maharishi continued.

The eternal knowledge of the ancient Veda brought to light by Maharishi shows that the total potential of Natural Law resides within the simplest form of one's own awareness. Maharishi's Vedic Science offers to modern science the ability to utilize the holistic value of Natural Law to improve the quality of life and bring fulfilment to the individual and society.

'It is a very great joy to inaugurate the University of Natural Law to enlighten the whole world so that everyone born on earth at all times may enjoy life in full accordance with Natural Law,' Maharishi said.

'In almost every field of knowledge the tendency to probe deeply into isolated areas has resulted in loss of the holistic vision of knowledge. Specialization is necessary, but each field of specialization should have the support of the total value of knowledge.

'Information Theory of Physics states that knowledge has organizing power. Therefore when specialized areas of knowledge are supported by the field of Total Knowledge, all knowledge will promote life-supporting influences for the whole field of existence.'

The experience of the subjective approach of Natural Law—the Transcendental Meditation and Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme—reveals how thoughts, speech, and action arise from the Self, the transcendental value of consciousness, which is ever silent, completely self-sufficient, and a field of all possibilities.

Maharishi explained that all these different levels of thought, speech, and action, are governed by different Laws of Nature, which start to function from the silent, unbounded level of consciousness—the 'I', the Self. This is the transcendental field of consciousness, which is the home of all the Laws of Nature.

Through the practice of the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme one learns to think and perform in the settled state of awareness, and 'because that silent state is a field of all possibilities, any thought that arises is materialized instantly,' Maharishi said. 'In this experience one perceives how the progressive transformation of Natural Law from one level to another constructs qualities or matter from the unmanifest field of consciousness.

'Regular experience of the functioning of the Laws of Nature through the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme develops command over Natural Law—the natural ability to act in accordance with all the Laws of Nature.'

Maharishi explained that modern science has unfolded knowledge of the fragmented values of Natural Law. The knowledge of these isolated values of Natural Law has been responsible for great industrial progress. However, this has not succeeded in producing a happy, secure, tension-free society.

'It is only the experience of Transcendental Consciousness that cultures the ability to act from the total potential of Natural Law and disallows one to violate the Laws of Nature.

'With the holistic knowledge of Natural Law from modern science and ancient Veda—the practical procedures of Transcendental Meditation and the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme—it is no longer necessary for any individual or nation to create the ground for stress, suffering, and problems in life,' Maharishi concluded.
