Jack Forem, a student at the University of California, first met Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in 1966 when Maharishi lectured on Transcendental Meditation on the Berkeley campus. “I was impressed by Maharishi’s wisdom, practicality, and humor,” Jack recalls. “And I was inspired by his vision for eliminating suffering and creating a peaceful world.” Jack learned to meditate, and three years later, he traveled to India to study with Maharishi to become a teacher of the TM technique.

Over the next several years, he directed the TM center in New York City, led training courses for TM teachers in Europe, and addressed conferences and seminars on TM’s impact on the development of creativity and higher states of consciousness. Based on his experience, in the mid 1970s, Jack wrote a bestselling book about the Transcendental Meditation technique.

Jack’s new book is a compelling update of his original bestseller. It contains all the key insights of the original book, plus much, much more.

Jack writes in a clear and accessible style about the many dimensions and benefits of the Transcendental Meditation technique, from its newly discovered effects on the brain, to its broad spectrum of mental and physical health benefits for our society’s growing problems with heart disease, anxiety disorders, depression, post-traumatic stress (PTSD), attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and more.

Jack introduces readers to such luminaries as Dr. Mehmet Oz and Oprah Winfrey, who tell why they have found the TM technique to be an important part of their busy and demanding lives.

Jack also takes us into schools that have over the last decade begun to integrate the practice of the “Quiet Time/TM Program” into the daily routine of students and teachers with dramatic effects on student behavior and performance.

Jack’s interviews with men and women of every age, background, and religion provide substantial insights into why the TM technique is becoming part of mainstream life here in America and around the world.

One of the unique features of the book, that makes it especially valuable for meditators, is its in-depth look at the evolution of consciousness and the growth of higher states of consciousness through regular TM practice.

Transcendental Meditation: The Essential Teachings of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is a unique and essential companion to Dr. Norman Rosenthal’s New York Times bestseller, Transcendence: Healing and Transformation through Transcendental Meditation. A reviewer of Mr. Forem’s book on Amazon said that “this book is like a long weekend chatting with a friendly expert.” It is a fascinating, incredibly enjoyable, must-read for all those interested in gaining a deeper understanding about the mechanics, benefits, and origins of the TM technique.

Over the next few months we will be posting excerpts from this book and an interview with the author.
