Chinese university to offer scholarships to MUM students for study in China

A new partnership agreement with Beijing Union University, Maharishi University of Management's fifth partner institution in China, will include scholarships for MUM students to study at BUU in China for a semester or a year, taking classes taught in English or in both Chinese and English.

The scholarships, which can accommodate a significant number of students, will cover all tuition costs.

BUU has 30,000 students, including 1,000 foreign students, and 1,800 faculty among 13 campuses in Beijing. MUM students will be able to select the campus where they'd like to study.

The collaboration agreement, similar to the other China partners, allows undergraduate students at BUU to spend up to two years at MUM as part of their degree. This allows them to earn a "dual degree" — a prestigious degree in China that means that they have officially graduated from both universities.

They can also choose to earn a single degree by doing fewer than two years. Some students will be enrolling in MUM's graduate programs.

The collaboration also entails training BUU faculty in Consciousness-Based education in the future, as well as affording BUU faculty the opportunity to earn a PhD from MUM.

According to Zhu Yunxiang, MUM vice president of Asia expansion, almost all MUM's Chinese students on campus other than those in the Computer Professionals program are from MUM's partner institutions. These include both undergraduate and graduate students studying a variety of disciplines, but mostly focused on business degrees.

Dr. Zhu and MUM President Dr. Bevan Morris visited BUU last September to explore a collaboration. Then in December a delegation of six deans and faculty from BUU spent three days on campus to assess MUM's educational offerings and facilities. They met with faculty, administrators, and students, including Chinese students studying at MUM.

A second purpose of their visit was to prepare for a forthcoming visit to MUM by the chairman of the board at BUU.

The agreements were signed by the presidents of both universities in early January, and Dr. Zhu then traveled to China to attend an agreement exchange ceremony on January 21 organized by BUU.
