Krista Brisbane comes from Dominica, a small island in the Caribbean that has been named the “nature island” due to its unspoiled rainforest, springs, and waterfalls. Growing up in a healthy environment, Krista became interested in natural health and self-development. Inspired by her cousins, she learned the Transcendental Meditation technique three years ago, and after completing holistic massage therapy training in the US, she applied to Maharishi University of Management (MUM).

“The Maharishi Vedic Science degree really drew me, because it was all about learning about yourself and discovering the fundamental principles of life,” she said. Krista, who holds a BA degree in French from the University of Miami, loves languages, so she especially enjoyed learning Sanskrit. Reading the different branches of Vedic literature and comparing their effects on the physiology were her favorite aspects of the program.

“Taking classes here is a much more pleasant experience than taking classes elsewhere,” she said. “The professors are more supportive.”

After finishing the MA in Maharishi Vedic Science courses in 2014, she stayed on for another year to do a specialization in physiology and health and become a Maharishi AyurVeda Wellness Consultant. In addition, she was able to learn the TM-Sidhi program.

Krista is eager to take home to Dominica what she has learned about health, wellness, and self-development. Her goal is to help establish Dominica as a wellness tourist destination by working on a project to create a wellness retreat center and eventually a Vastu community.

“Krista is smart, lively, and kind—fully competent to accomplish any goal that she sets for herself with grace and ease,” said Maharishi Vedic Science professor Thomas Egenes. “She’s going to do great things for the Caribbean islands and our world family.”

Krista also likes to work with children. While at MUM, she participated in the Enlightened Leadership Program, which motivated her to create a vision project for a nonprofit foundation to help children in need, incorporating Maharishi’s technologies of the Transcendental Meditation technique and Maharishi AyurVeda.
