Vedic Education brings good luck

Good luck is an integral part of a businessman's success.  So expressed a member of the press in a global press conference with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on 18 August, 2004. Appreciating that Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation can bring an individual many other ingredients of business success—creativity, focus, energy, intelligence, better health, and better brain functioning—the reporter wanted to know if it also brings good luck. 'Is a meditating entrepreneur a luckier entrepreneur and, if so, what makes him luckier?' he asked.

As you sow, so shall you reap
Maharishi replied: 'What makes one luckier is: the good that he has done to others, it comes back to him. A man doesn't become lucky by doing wrong. He becomes lucky because he has done good to others. That good comes back to him, and now he is lucky. So what he does is his own, the result of his own karma, the result of his own action. If a man is unlucky, this is very clear, he is unlucky because he has nullified the life of somebody else—he has made his life "un"—so, unlucky.

'When you do good to others, when you make the life of other people lucky, that is the technique to be lucky. To be compassionate, loving, kind, serviceful: these are the values which are said to be lucky. Wrongdoing is always unlucky, because by doing wrong things you make the other man suffer, you make him unlucky. So unluck comes back to you. As you sow, so shall you reap; it's a very simple thing.

'All these are very old concepts of life everywhere, in all languages. Doesn't matter where one is, the result of one's action is what one has to go through oneself.'

Spontaneous right thought and action
Maharishi continued, explaining that Vedic Education, of which Transcendental Meditation is the cornerstone, '. . . builds up one's own mind so that the mind will never go wrong.'

In his first book, Science of Being and Art of Living, Maharishi elaborates on developing the ability to perform right action. He clearly states that it is beyond the ability of the intellect to determine what action will be permanently useful for the actor and simultaneously have a harmonious, life-supporting effect in the environment. Instead of being determined intellectually, '. . . the ability to perform only useful actions lies basically in attuning oneself with cosmic law.'

Maharishi elucidates this point saying, 'A more and more exact sense of judgment between right and wrong comes naturally, as one's consciousness grows, but when the consciousness is highest and Being [Transcendental Consciousness] is infused into the nature of one's mind to the fullest extent, the mind knows without doubt what is right and wrong. By natural inclination and natural taste, wrong actions and wrong thoughts are not even considered.

So, the real art of performing right action lies in having a mind which is right at all times. To be right, the mind has to be in that state of lasting contentment and purity which belongs only to the state of pure consciousness.'

Such a mind is developed through Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation and all aspects of Vedic Education, education of Natural Law, which, in the press conference, Maharishi called 'perfect education'.

The art of good luck
Thus, Maharishi has expressed that the art of good luck has its basis in the art of doing right in the world. And 'the art of doing right in the world has its basis in the regular practice of Transcendental Meditation and the acquisition of the highest purity of consciousness. That purity of consciousness will in itself induce and maintain in the mind a natural tendency for only right action, and thus it is essential that it be cultivated.'

Good luck in business and all of life is a spontaneous and natural result of this 'perfect education,' attunement of oneself with cosmic law.
