Pakiso Litau and Tholoana Mbande were among the first students to enroll at the Maharishi Invincibility Institute in Johannesburg, South Africa. They both received the top student award—Pakiso in 2010 and Tholoana in 2011—and were in the first graduating class in December 2013. This October, they were the first graduates of the Maharishi Invincibility Institute (MII) to enroll in the MBA intern program on the Maharishi University of Management (MUM) campus.
Pakiso and Tholoana both started vocational training at the Maharishi Invincibility Institute in 2007, the year it was founded. After successfully completing the foundational courses, they enrolled in MUM’s distance education program to earn BA degrees in business administration. This part-time program allows students to take online classes from MUM professors while participating in an internship program at the Maharishi Invincibility Institute.
Over the years they each filled numerous staff positions at the Institute, such as agents at Invincible Outsourcing, a call center operated by students where Tholoana became a quality assessor and Pakiso a team leader. By helping to build up the various departments they gained valuable leadership, communication, and technical skills.
“It’s a great experience to see the Institute grow,” said Tholoana. “All of the students who graduated with us found jobs from that experience of working at the Institute. In December, the second class will graduate with about 60 students.”
They found that the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique helped them with the demands of their jobs. “TM helps me cope with whatever I am doing,” said Pakiso. “It was a nice experience to get deep rest and take on a lot of activities that happened at the Institute.”
Both students appreciated how Consciousness-Based education at MII incorporated academic knowledge as well as knowledge of the Self, so they chose MUM to further their education. Pakiso is doing his internship in the Invincible America registration office and Tholoana is departmental administrator for the math and literature departments. Once they receive their MBA degrees they hope to return to South Africa and start their own businesses.
