Global Good News: Excellence in Action

Nestled amongst the scenic gardens and historical palaces of Bhopal, in Madhya Pradesh, India, Maharishi Centre for Educational Excellence (MCEE) is designed to demonstrate perfection in education. One of the brightest jewels in the crown of Maharishi Consciousness-Based Educational institutions throughout India, MCEE is well known for its outstanding educational programme which offers Consciousness-Based Education at every level from kindergarten to PhD.

MCEE students recently won distinction in large interschool competitions at the primary and secondary level in Bhopal. The students participated in the 2006 Horlicks Wiz Kids competitions, held in 25 major cities across India and including more than 200,000 students from 1,500 schools. These competitions are designed to display students’ talents beyond academics—especially highlighting the value of activities outside the classroom for developing character and leadership. They feature 30 competitions for students from classes I-XII, in diverse subjects such as music, literature, dance, singing, writing, speaking, creativity, art, and design.

The well-rounded educational programme at MCEE was excellent preparation for the students. The goal of MCEE is holistic development of all areas of the student’s life, and the curriculum features strong academics as well as a broad array of activities including athletics, clubs, and hobbies that give students many opportunities to develop their talents, work cooperatively, and grow in leadership.

All of this stood them in good stead in the Wiz Kids competitions, which included over 3500 students from 35 high-ranking schools in Bhopal city. The competition was held at the Ravindra Bhawan Auditorium in Bhopal. MCEE students competed in 12 events and won many awards in different categories.

Both MCEE students and their teachers agreed that the most important element in their schooling—which gave them the ‘winner’s edge’ in competition—is the ‘consciousness’ in their Consciousness-Based Education: culturing their inner genius through Maharishi’s Vedic Technologies of Consciousness.

During their practice of Maharishi’s Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi Programme, students experience directly the unbounded field of pure consciousness, Atma, and awaken its limitless creativity and intelligence at the source of all their thought, speech, and action. Volumes of scientific research have documented the effects of this experience and its corresponding enlivenment of total brain functioning, in developing students’ full potential and achievements in every area of their education.

Thus it wasn’t surprising that the MCEE students received many prizes, including:

Group Melody - Second Prize

Group Dance - Second Prize

Flower arrangement - First Prize

MCEE as a whole was recognized by receiving the Best School Award. This was also not surprising, in view of rapidly increasing worldwide acclaim and adoption of this remarkable educational system.

Visitors often comment that students at Consciousness-Based institutions around the world are not only high achievers, but also display graciousness and joy in competition, respect for students they are competing against, and maturity beyond their years.

The development of these ideal character traits is a natural and spontaneous outcome of the students’ Atma-based education. As the founder of MCEE, His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, has said, ‘Each student’s thoughts, speech, and actions will be spontaneously upheld by the silent power of peace that permeates all activity in the universe.’ This is the highest dignity of Vedic wisdom that is culturing them most profoundly, as they rise to become the future leaders of their nation.
