Tukiso Mokoena was born in 1986 in Soweto, South Africa. He was raised primarily by his grandmother, and in 1992 he moved with her to Orange Farm–an informal settlement south of Johannesburg.

Highly intelligent, Tukiso excelled academically and was ranked in the top three of his class. However, in high school he became involved in negative social trends and his marks at school dropped drastically.

He realized that his life needed direction, so the next year he enrolled at a private school called Masibambane College (translated as ‘Let Us Unite’), a branch of the prestigious St John’s College in Johannesburg. When lack of finances threatened his attendance there, he completed eight hours of aptitude tests and was awarded a scholarship; and at the age of fifteen he was placed in grade twelve.

During this time Tukiso developed an appreciation for entrepreneurship. With no previous experience he began to refurbish and sell computers. With the success of his business he was able to support his entire family.

Then Tukiso received a business scholarship to Community and Individual Development Association City (CIDA) Campus in Johannesburg, where he was introduced to the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi Programme. He practised the technique morning and evening at the school as part of the curriculum and his life was transformed almost completely.

His achievements at the school were impressive: he worked as a consultant for the Win Win Group, represented CIDA and South Africa in Edinburgh at the G8 Summit to Make Poverty History, ran a modelling and talent agency, and won first prize in the inaugural Branson School of Entrepreneurship award in Business Plan development in 2005.

Tukiso attributes his resourcefulness to the Transcendental Meditation (TM) and TM-Sidhi Programme. He feels it has allowed him to evolve tremendously, developing in him greater maturity, intelligence, creativity, energy, clarity, and peace of mind. The technique also decreased his anxiety, providing him with the emotional stability to free himself of the negative tendencies of his youth.

Tukiso’s transformation has inspired him to devote his life to transforming the lives of others. He wants to help his family, community, country, and the world to see the great beauty of life and to realize their own inner potential. He is aware that human beings are the most evolved and powerful species in the universe, and when they are living their full potential they will never have to suffer.

At the age of twenty he has already begun to actualize his vision with the creation of a Consciousness–Based school in his hometown of Orange Farm. The students have all learnt the Transcendental Meditation Programme and practise it every morning and afternoon at school. The average age of his students is 21 and they study entrepreneurship and information technology. Tukiso is committed to the economic freedom and well-being of the citizens of his beloved South Africa and the world.
