On 22 December the first reports were handed out to the boys attending the Onoverwinlijkheidscollege (Invincibility School) in Lelystad, Netherlands. On this occasion, the school director, Dr Hein Brik, said: 'We have been open for over two months now and already not only the parents are amazed at the change in their children, but also the school inspection and other government agencies are expressing their surprise and are gaining more and more confidence in this Consciousness-Based system of education.'
Maharishi's Consciousness-Based Education features courses on consciousness. This means that pupils study the field of consciousness through direct experience by learning and practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme at school, and after a few months, the TM-Sidhi Programme, including Yogic Flying, as well as through a deeper understanding of their unlimited potential in a course that brings out unifying principles in nature.
By diving within to meditate twice a day they experience pure consciousness, the most creative and intelligent level of awareness, as a result of which they feel refreshed, clear and more dynamic in their daily activity. This helps them see the relationship between themselves and every subject of study. All the usual subjects are taught in the light of the knowledge and experience of consciousness.
For twenty years there has been a primary Consciousness-Based school in the town of Lelystad. The secondary Consciousness-Based school opened last autumn. On 22 December the Flevopost (the daily newspaper of the area) mentioned that according to the report of the education inspection, good-quality education is given at this new secondary school.
Both in Lelystad and Amsterdam the pupils are happy with their new school. On the occasion of receiving their first reports the pupils expressed this as follows.
One student remarks: 'I can think more clearly and words come more easily when I want to express myself. I can focus better and take in more. As a result I find that my achievements are much better and I am confident that I can manage my Havo-transition (this pupil had a switch to a higher educational level to be at this school).’
Another says: ‘There is a nice settled feeling in class and the teachers are also very kind. I am happy that I am attending this school, and the reason that I am achieving so well in comparison with the past at other schools is especially because of meditation.’
A girl in Amsterdam says: 'I feel more at home with myself and can focus my attention on the lessons more easily. I enjoy Mathematics much more than before. The teachers keep repeating the material until you understand it. Pupils also try to help each other along.'
Another girl in Amsterdam says: 'I am accepted as I am and I accept them.'
Currently primary schools all over the Netherlands are being informed about Maharishi's Consciousness-Based Education, because this is the time that parents need to choose a new school for their children who are finishing primary school and are ready preparing to go to secondary school.
More branches of the Onoverwinlijkheidscollege are planned to begin in different parts of Holland in September 2007.
