Scotland welcomes Consciousness-Based Education tour

Dr Ashley Deans, Director of the Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment, Fairfield, USA, recently completed a highly successful visit to Scotland to promote the introduction of Maharishi's Consciousness-Based Education there. The visit was widely publicized to educators and the media in Scotland. 

The objectives of this tour were to promote the establishment of Maharishi Invincibility Schools in Scotland, as well as to promote the introduction of Transcendental Meditation and Yogic Flying into existing schools. 

The week began with a press conference, which attracted journalists from leading news media of Scotland. Chess grandmaster and Herald columnist, Jonathan Rowson, tells his own story of learning Transcendental Meditation and concludes his very favourable three-quarter-page article with: 'I hope that at least one courageous school gives Consciousness-Based Education a try. I expect it to be a huge success.' 

A short piece advertising the series of conferences also appeared in Edinburgh's Evening News and interest was expressed by the Sunday Post. 

The first two days of the tour were devoted to visiting three secondary schools and a university department in Dundee. The first headmaster, who had warmly invited Dr Deans and his hosts to visit, had forewarned them that his Christian beliefs would not allow him to consider Transcendental Meditation.* He was nevertheless very interested in Dr Deans's presentation, extended it by half an hour, and lent his recommendation to other head teachers to receive Dr Deans. 

Faculty of a state-run Catholic  school gave a very open and positive reception to the team, who report that the expressions on the teachers' faces clearly showed they were receiving a message of hope, both for themselves and for their school. All the discussion at the end of this presentation revolved around how good the programme would be, and how they could best implement it. 

At another state Catholic school, the headmaster welcomed the team at the entrance and insisted on taking the team on a tour of his newly-built school. He was very generous with his time, listened very attentively for an hour, and then spoke in practical terms of how to introduce the programme. 

At the Education Department of Dundee University, Dr Deans was well received by faculty members, and these contacts will be developed. 

'Only the experience of Transcendental [Meditation]' Dr Deans reflected in a news conference later in this month, 'enlivens total brain functioning. This is the really important point: education has to include this experience of the Unified Field—this field of Transcendental Consciousness within—in order to enliven total brain functioning. 

'And of course, as every teacher knows, if the students are enlivening their total brain functioning ... and if the students are fully awake and fully alert, and they are using the coherence of the brain ... then teaching becomes a joy. 

'Any school can achieve success when they introduce Consciousness-Based Education.... I am continually amazed by the success of these students. For example, since I have been the Director [of Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment] over the past fifteen years, these students have won over 100 state championships, national championships or international championships. 

'These students, I should emphasize, are not hand-picked. We accept any student who applies to the school, so we are very different really from other schools. You may know of some school which you say, ''Oh, that's a very good school'', but what you'll find is that those schools only accept great students, and if that school had to accept mediocre students, then it wouldn't be a great school any more. 

'But at Maharishi School, we have something unique. We can take every student, regardless of their past performance—and by giving them this knowledge of Consciousness-Based Education, we can reconnect the student's individual intelligence to that field of infinite creativity and intelligence within themselves, that Unified Field. And then the students wake up—they become brilliant and creative, and they succeed in whatever they put their attention on.'
