| Peace group seeks to reduce violence El Universo Report by Global Good News staff writer November, 2006 On 29 July 2006, Ecuador’s widely read Spanish publication, El Universo, reported that the Maharishi School in Duran Canton is preparing a group of its students to become ‘soldiers against crime’, through the practice of Maharishi’s Transcendental Meditation Technique (TM). It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of education. The article noted that 200 children and youths are training to become the first soldiers of peace in Ecuador. Through Transcendental Meditation they are seeking to reduce crime and violence in their country, as occurred with groups formed in Washington DC, USA; Manila, Philippines; and in New Delhi, India. El Universo reported, ‘This group has an antecedent in the success achieved by a group of 4,000 experts in Transcendental Meditation, which demonstrated its power of consciousness by reducing the rate of violent crime in that city (citing the research done in Washington, DC) by 18%.' Christian Auz, teacher at the Maharishi School and coordinator of the project, says that to achieve these same results, ‘the students will use silence as a secret weapon.’ She went on to say that the cause of crime is social tension, or collective stress, which can be diminished with repeated practice of TM, because it generates waves of coherence, which eliminate negativity. The article noted that Salomon Alvarez, Principal of the Maharishi School, clarified that more than 600 scientific studies exist which prove the effectiveness of this meditation practice. ‘All efforts to combat crime have failed, because they cannot reduce stress in the society. Therefore, we are offering a new angle based on an ancient technology validated by modern science.’ Alvarez pointed out that those who have learned the advanced TM Programme, called the TM-Sidhi Programme, have a greater capacity to generate coherence. Alvarez explained that an average of 500 persons practising the TM-Sidhi Programme—Sidhas—can change the consciousness of all the inhabitants of Ecuador, if large groups of practitioners are located in the cities of Quito and Guayaquil. To this end the school is proposing to those municipalities the creation of ‘cuartels’ where future Sidhas will be trained. The article concluded by quoting Luis Aparicio, the director of the Maharishi School. ‘This initiative is part of Maharish’s plan to create a Global Country of World Peace—a collection of nations with a large number of Sidhas focused on changing the consciousness of the entire world. It is groups of people meditating which will produce the physical and mental effect of wellbeing for all.’ Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace. © Copyright 2006, Global Good News(sm) Service |
