Given on 18 March 1978 in Seelisberg, Switzerland, this talk is published in the special series of books for students, Maharishi Speaks to Students: Mastery over Natural Law.
'The liveliness of Transcendental Consciousness, unbounded awareness, has a parallel state of physiology,' Maharishi said. 'At that level of physiology any physical impulse will be the impulse of consciousness. This is the meeting point between consciousness and the body.
'The finest state of physiological activity corresponds to the state of Being, the state of pure consciousness, which is completely devoid of any intention. The next finest level of physiology corresponds to the state of Being when it starts to become awakened to its own value and rises in the waves of 'becoming'.
'When Being knows itself, it is called consciousness, which is pure life itself. Although this state of pure life is not yet expressed, there must be some structure of physiology to maintain that liveliness of consciousness.
'The human nervous system can express the totality of the omnipresent value of pure life. In the state of full awakening the individual lives the omnipresent, universal value of life and experiences "I am everything."'
Maharishi explained that physiology is a sequential development of consciousness. Any small change in consciousness produces a change in the entire functioning of the body as well as in behaviour and the environment.
Only when the functioning of the nervous system is completely normal will the state of enlightenment be maintained.
'Every impulse of consciousness has not only a physical value, but also an intelligence value, which structures the quality of the thought impulses,' Maharishi continued. 'It is this value of intelligence that makes the body move according to the intention of the mind.'
Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme makes use of this intimate connection between consciousness and the physiology in order to culture the ability to create any physical state or activity by mere intention. When one gains the habit of functioning within one's own Self—pure consciousness, the field of all possibilities—one is able to accomplish anything one desires.
'At the basis of all the expressions in creation is the unmanifest field of all possibilities, full lively and awake within itself,' Maharishi said. 'The human nervous system has the ability to maintain this level of consciousness, fully awake in all possibilities.
'When every individual is educated to live all possibilities in life, everyone will be infinitely creative, and civilization will rise to great heights of achievement and fulfilment.'
The technology to unfold all possibilities in individual awareness is absolutely simple: during Transcendental Meditation awareness opens to pure consciousness through a process of doing less and less. In the state of pure consciousness the brain functions in its most rested state and thereby displays the maximum value of creativity.
'In order to produce the full glory of the limited manifest value, one must know the unlimited, unmanifest, abstract value, which is the basis of all concrete expressions,' Maharishi said.
