In this talk given in Mallorca, Spain, in February 1970, and published in the four-volume book Maharishi Speaks to Students: Mastery over Natural Law, Maharishi explains that 'Creative Intelligence creates in a specific direction for a specific purpose of progress and evolution. In order to be progressive and evolutionary, Creative Intelligence is discriminative and integrative.'
Maharishi said that discrimination is in favour of integration. Creative Intelligence first discriminates what is useful and what is not. It has the creative faculty to then make the useless useful and to integrate the improved qualities.
'The infusion of the progressive and evolutionary nature of Creative Intelligence develops spontaneous right action, thereby bringing support from Nature, which is vital for success,' Maharishi said.
Action occurs through thought and desire and is a direct means of developing Creative Intelligence, because action leads to progress. As Creative Intelligence develops, the quality of action improves and is more rewarding, making the actor fulfilled.
'It is possible to have the full value of Creative Intelligence saturate one's awareness permanently through the process of alternately taking the awareness to the transcendental, pure field of Creative Intelligence, and then exposing awareness to the field of action,' Maharishi continued. 'Then every impulse of thought, speech, and action will be supported by Creative Intelligence, which is the source of all creation.'
The whole creation, all time and space, is the expression of Creative Intelligence. 'When the awareness opens to its own infinite potential,' said Maharishi, 'awareness itself becomes the basis of all creation, the fountainhead of space and time and all phenomenal existence.
'Awareness that is in tune with this omnipresent level of the present will feel no restrictions in the field of time and space and will be able to influence the past or future by operating from the transcendental value of the present.
'The pure field of Creative Intelligence opened to one's awareness gives the ground for a thought or an impulse of desire to have the ability to touch and influence any area of the universe.'
This expanded state of awareness is gained during the practice of Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation, whereby mental activity settles down to its least excited state. The ability of perception improves, and with expanded vision, the solid boundaries of any problem begin to melt and disappear.
Locating a problem and dealing with it in its infancy averts the danger before it arises. This becomes possible when mental activity is brought to a quiet state, giving the awareness a smooth, harmonious, unwavering platform in which the slightest disturbance can be located and attended to.
'Yogasthah kuru karmani ' (Bhagavad-Gita, 2.48.) 'Established in the state of Being, perform action. When that silent state of the mind is permanently established and one performs action, only that which is useful will arise,' Maharishi said. 'All thought, speech, and action will be creative, apt, and valid.'
Creative Intelligence is all-inclusive because its value of analysis and discrimination functions not only on the subjective level of the mind, but also in the objective field—the environment as well as the doer are taken into account. 'Creative Intelligence works like an all-knowing computer, as it computes what is favourable for progress and acts to achieve the goal of all-comprehensive evolution.
The systematic procedure of gaining right, complete knowledge is science. Maharishi's Science of Creative Intelligence is the lighthouse of knowledge, which provides the insight into both the creative process and the mechanics of the development of Creative Intelligence. 'It locates that basic field of life responsible for the whole creation,' Maharishi continued.
'As an individual develops more Creative Intelligence, he will function in a more evolutionary pattern with wise, right action, which will influence whatever has been set for him in the future due to past actions.
'The Laws of Nature that set up a particular instance at a particular time are not localized to that situation and time; they are universal and will apply to many other situations. Instances in sequence keep on influencing the entire future.
'Whatever may have been set is open to be reset by what one does now. The structure of the past can be modified and the future constantly improved upon: man is the master of his own destiny.'
