At the First International Conference on Maharishi's Vedic Science held in Paris, France, 14-15 November 1981, Maharishi explained* how Vedic Science brings fulfilment to modern science by unifying the subjective and objective approaches to knowledge and making the knower himself the source, course, and goal of all knowledge.
Maharishi described the central theme of Vedic Science as contained in the following verse from Rk Veda (1.164.39):
Richo Ak-kshare parame vyoman
yasmin Deva adhi vishwe nisheduh
yastanna Ved kim richa karishyati
Ya it tad vidus ta ime samasate
'The verses [Richas] of the Veda exist in the collapse of fullness, the Kshara of A [the first syllable of Rk Veda]'; Parame vyoman, 'in the transcendental field'; Yasmin Deva, 'in which reside all the Devas, the impulses of Creative Intelligence, the Laws of Nature'; Adhi vishwe nisheduh, 'responsible for the whole manifest universe.'
Yastanna Veda, 'He whose awareness is not open to this field'; Kim richa karishyati, 'what can the verses accomplish for him?' Ya it tad vidus, 'Those who know this level of reality'; Ta ime samasate, 'are established in evenness, wholeness of life.'
Maharishi said that this verse of Rk Veda locates the fundamental value of the total potential of Natural Law in the transcendental field, in which fullness, 'A', is in a continually dynamic process of collapsing within itself to create finite expressions of knowledge.
'This expression of pure knowledge in the Transcendent is the expression of all the Laws of Nature, which are the blueprint of creation and are responsible for organizing the entire manifest universe,' Maharishi said.
'The second part of the verse describes the significance of the field of pure knowledge for the individual. In order to benefit from the specific expressions of Natural Law, one must take recourse to this level, which is the full potential of Natural Law at the basis of all specific values of Natural Law.'
Modern science is concerned only with specific aspects of Natural Law. 'If our knowledge of Natural Law is only partial, then the organizing power of Natural Law that we gain will also be partial.
'To fully utilize the Laws of Nature it is necessary to expand our awareness so that it comprehends the totality of Natural Law,' Maharishi continued. 'This is a practical formula for any individual to gain mastery over Natural Law.'
The field of Transcendental Consciousness experienced during Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation and Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme is the transcendental, unmanifest, unbounded level of reality that is the basis of all the specific expressions of Natural Law.
Maharishi's Vedic Science uncovers the complete value of Natural Law. Modern science provides an understanding of specific channels through which Natural Law operates. The goal of modern science—to gain complete understanding of Natural Law—is fulfiled by Maharishi's Vedic Science.
'When the different fields of modern science are presented in the light of the holistic value of Vedic Science, unity is found between the different disciplines,' Maharishi said. 'The principles of all scientific disciplines find their common ground in the student's own awareness—Transcendental Consciousness. In this way Vedic Science brings the field of objective knowledge to its ultimate source in consciousness.
'Vedic Science unifies subjective and objective knowledge and makes the knower himself the source, course, and goal of all knowledge.
'The holistic knowledge of Natural Law brought to light by Vedic Science fulfils the goal of education to give the student complete understanding and experience of the full range of Natural Law.'
