When children are settled in themselves, in their own consciousness, through their daily practice of  Transcendental Meditation, they enjoy poetry more and express greater creativity.

Maharishi School teacher in England wins award for students' poems

Raja Peter Warburton, Raja of Invincible Great Britain for the Global Country of World Peace, recently spoke about the continuing success of the Maharishi School in England. Raja Peter said that the school's literature teacher, Dr Cliff Yates, has been chosen as one of the British National Poetry Society's eight top teacher trailblazers in the country. 

Raja Warburton read from the letter The Poetry Society sent to Dr Yates: 'We have selected you from hundreds of teachers around the world who submitted class sets of poems to the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award 2008 because we believe that you have demonstrated the highest level of dedication to teaching poetry in school.' 

'These students are writing the most extraordinary poetry—extraordinary not just in their creativity with language, but in their depth of understanding of human emotions, creativity, and experience,' Raja Warburton said. 

As a result of this award the school has a one-year Poetry Society membership and there will also be promotion through the national press, including the Guardian and The Times, and through the Poetry Society's website for 12 months. 

The Poetry Society has organized a national press conference to be held in the middle of October. The press conference will feature the profile of Dr Yates and also top tips from him on teaching poetry. 

The fundamental of teaching poetry, Raja Warburton noted, is that 'the children need to be settled in themselves, in their own consciousness, through their daily practice of  Transcendental Meditation. They need to live stress-free lives, and enjoy stress-free Consciousness-Based Education.' 

Raja Warburton read the final paragraph of the letter Dr Yates received: 'Congratulations on your award, and thank you for helping to produce such excellent poetry in your classes. We hope that we will be able to develop a lasting relationship with you and your school. Here at the Poetry Society we want to reward your dedication and enthusiasm for poetry, which we believe should be a major feature in the lives of every young person. This award will mark the Poetry Society's ongoing consultation with teachers, and celebrate the work that you do to bring poetry to life in the classroom.' 

'It's not just poetry,' Raja Warburton said, 'but also mathematics, physics, athletics etc. in which the Maharishi School—a relatively small school, about 10 times smaller than the average school in Britain—wins competition after competition.'  

Raja Warburton explained that there was a competition recently that the Maharishi School was asked not to enter for a couple of years in order to give others a chance to win—because year after year Maharishi School students were winning the top three prizes in that competition. 

The Maharishi School exceeds the most famous traditional high-ranking schools of the nation in terms of their level of exam passes. More than half the pupils at the Maharishi School are new to the practice of the Transcendental Meditation Technique, and come because they and their parents are drawn to the school's stress-free environment and excellence in academics. 

'This is an important development in terms of starting similar schools all over the country,' Raja Warburton concluded, 'because it indicates demand for this kind of ideal education.'
