For effective, rapid communication, frictionless flow is necessary. Continuous frictionless flow is possible only from the state of least excitation, which is present in all excited states. If communication is based on the state of least excitation, one is able to communicate to every part of the universe.

This is how Maharishi explained the frictionless flow of communication in a talk given on Lake Lucerne, Switzerland, on 28 November 1975. He said that Transcendental Meditation develops the state of least excitation of consciousness, from where communication will have the quality of frictionless flow.

'Another important aspect of communication is that the message should be evolutionary so that it is cordially received and immediately adopted,' Maharishi said. 'This principle is based on the nature of life, which is to grow. Anything that is progressive and nourishing to life will naturally be adopted.'

Maharishi then explained that from the level of Cosmic Consciousness—the experience in which Transcendental Consciousness is experienced as an all-time reality alongside waking, dreaming, and deep sleep states of consciousness—the state of least excitation is permanently maintained; activity is most orderly and therefore most communicative.

'Order is "thinner" than disorder,' Maharishi said, 'and therefore is capable of penetrating all levels of disorder.

'Every word arising from one established in Cosmic Consciousness is evolutionary because the state of least excitation of consciousness is the home of all the Laws of Nature. Any impulse emerging from the home of all the Laws of Nature will be adopted by all the Laws of Nature that are responsible for all the excited states in creation.'

Scientific research has shown that the fundamentals of communication—happiness, harmony, love, intelligence, and technology—are developed through Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Programme. On the basis of these fundamentals, all communication will be spontaneously smooth, orderly, evolutionary, and successful.

'If we have handled consciousness successfully, then we have successfully handled communication,' Maharishi continued. 'Communication should motivate the listener to receive the message in the same spirit in which it has been conveyed. The receiver must feel that the message is useful to his own evolution and for the fulfilment of his own desires.

'Suffering arises from lack of communication. When awareness is established in the home of all the Laws of Nature, communication is supported by all the Laws of Nature. In this state one does not violate any Laws of Nature and therefore does not create a ground for suffering.'

There is one basic law that guides all the activity in Nature—the law of least action. When communication is supported by the Laws of Nature, it follows the path of least action, which is the path of least resistance. This is the basis of frictionless flow of communication, which will create an evolutionary, enriching influence for life.

'The seed of suffering lies in the lack of ability to fulfil one's desires,' Maharishi concluded. 'When communication starts from the home of all the Laws of Nature, which obey the principle of least action, it will have frictionless flow, least time and energy will be expended, and maximum response will be created, because the communication is creating an evolutionary effect for life.'
