Dr Susan Dillbeck presents the knowledge, resources, and guidelines for introducing Consciousness-Based Education in schools, colleges, and universities around the world.
On 23 January 2009, an Advanced Seminar on Consciousness-Based Education was held at MERU, in Vlodrop, Holland, presented by the Ministry of Education of the Global Country of World Peace and the International Foundation of Consciousness-Based Education.
Chaired by Dr Susan Dillbeck, President of the International Foundation of Vedic Education, the purpose of the seminar was to introduce the complete range of knowledge, guidelines, and resources for making Consciousness-Based Education available in every country, with the goal of bringing invincibility to every nation through education.
The seminar participants were introduced to the beautiful principles of curriculum, instruction, and administration that Maharishi developed in creating a perfect educational system for individual enlightenment and national invincibility.
The participants became familiar with the materials and guidelines for starting a school or university and how to implement the Transcendental Meditation and Transcendental Meditation-Sidhi Programme and courses on consciousness in existing schools and universities; also for forming working groups to establish a planned Consciousness-Based school or university.
Seminars were also outlined for teachers and practitioners of the Transcendental Meditation Programme to increase their competence and knowledge. Websites and other internet resources were introduced that contain knowledge, videos, the latest guidelines, scientific research charts, and course materials on Consciousness-Based Education.
Dr Dillbeck said that the steps of action and documents for starting a Consciousness-Based school or university cover four main areas: National government and Global Country of World Peace requirements; land, building, and finances; finding the principal or president and faculty, along with principal and faculty development programmes; and recruiting and publicity.
There are also four stages of implementing our programmes in existing schools, with packages of materials for each stage: Transcendental Meditation, the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme; a course on consciousness; and a full Consciousness-Based school or university. These materials include step-by-step guidelines for implementing the programmes—faculty development programmes; outlines for a presentation to parents at the school level; and promotional materials.
Most important are the guidelines for establishing the school or university in accord with Maharishi's principles, and the financial policies.
Dr Dillbeck explained the different manuals that are now available for implementing Consciousness-Based Education in a school. These include manuals for teaching the different academic subjects in light of consciousness, manuals for administration for a Consciousness-Based Education, the curriculum and courses on Maharishi Science of Consciousness for different levels of school, a parent knowledge programme, and monthly advanced lectures for students and teachers, taught by a teacher of Transcendental Meditation.
For those practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme, who will be starting Consciousness-Based schools, universities, and programmes, an Education Leaders Course is available—taught by the local teacher of Transcendental Meditation with DVDs. There are also 1-Day and Weekend Seminars for starting a Consciousness-Based institution and a 16-hour introductory videotaped course on Consciousness-Based Education.
An 8-minute videotape was shown of a principal and teachers describing the results of implementing Transcendental Meditation in their school. Dr Raja Luis Alvarez, Raja of Latin America, spoke about implementing the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme in schools and universities in South America, and Dr Volker Schanbacher, International Minister of Education of the Global Country of World Peace, also addressed the seminar, speaking about 'Foundation of Consciousness-Based Education in individual and collective consciousness'. Excellence in Action will present further articles about the presentations of these speakers.
