During a recent Advanced Seminar on Consciousness-Based Education held at MERU in Vlodrop, Holland, Amrita Shrivastava spoke about the need for Consciousness-Based Education in India.
Miss Shrivastava expressed her gratitude for being able to take part in the Advanced Seminar on Consciousness-Based Education. Because of the time difference, she was not able to participate live and therefore prepared a taped presentation to be used.
She quoted Maharishi, 'My Vedic Education is rising to change the old concept of education from all knowledge in one campus to all knowledge in one brain, the fruit of all knowledge to everyone.' As a university student in India, she said that she can attest that this is just what is needed in every university of India—'the fruit of all knowledge—Total Knowledge, enlightenment, as the result of our education, not only knowledge of specific disciplines'.
She had heard that the curriculum for the new ladies' universities includes an MA programme in Maharishi's Science of Consciousness with Specialization in Media and Animated Design in the Light of Total Knowledge. 'A degree programme like this is so exciting to me,' she continued. 'I think lots of girls in India would like to enroll in such a programme. It is practical, offering training in computer and design skills that are very useful and up to date, but at the same time one would gain the benefit of unfolding the field of Total Knowledge in her own awareness. As a result of her education she would be at home with all knowledge.'
Miss Shrivasta expressed her hope that these Enlightenment-Based universities for ladies will soon be established in India. 'India is a big country and needs lots of them, so they are available in every part of the country!' she said. 'With this system of education my generation could have a very promising future—the promise of living our lives in the light of knowledge rather than the darkness of ignorance. We want to live in an age of enlightenment, and it is our education that will prepare us for that.'
