Maharishi invites everyone to enjoy the full creative potential of life On 4 April 1982, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi inaugurated globally Maharishi University of Natural Law at Mentmore Towers in Buckinghamshire, England. On 21 April 1982, he invited everyone to enjoy the full creative potential of life through the integrated knowledge of Natural Law offered by Maharishi Colleges of Natural Law throughout the world. 'The integrated knowledge of Natural Law contains the infinite organizing power of Nature that is governing the infinite variety of activity in the whole Cosmic Life,' he said. 'The purpose of inaugurating 1,008 Maharishi Colleges of Natural Law is to bring this integrated knowledge of Natural Law to the whole of mankind, so that life is lived in perfect alliance with Natural Law.' The knowledge of Natural Law is available in education through the different disciplines of modern science. Intellectual understanding of the Laws of Nature, however, has not enabled man to live spontaneously in accordance with Natural Law. 'The violation of the Laws of Nature has resulted in stress, problems, and suffering throughout time,' Maharishi said. 'In this Year of Natural Law [1982], the knowledge of the full potential of Natural Law has come to light. The total potential of Natural Law has become an experiential reality through Transcendental Meditation and the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, and has also become an intellectual cognition through the discoveries of modern physics and mathematics. 'The integrated knowledge of Natural Law is that practical knowledge which will make daily life more enjoyable, more creative, and more successful for every man, no matter what his profession or activity in life. The integrated knowledge of Natural Law will allow everyone to contribute to the reconstruction of society and the creation of a permanent state of peace in the world,' Maharishi said. Modern physics has made great progress in uncovering the subtler realms of creation. This has unfolded the understanding of the subtlest level of the creation, the Unified Field. These discoveries reveal that at its most fundamental level Nature is a dynamic structure containing properties we normally attribute to consciousness. Maharishi explained that this fundamental level of Nature is an unbounded, transcendental field of pure liveliness and dynamism, which through the quality of self-referral, generates and sustains both the total potential of Natural Law and its specific channels of functioning. 'The objective approach of modern science has reached the level of its fulfilment in identifying the subjective element of consciousness as the most fundamental reality of creation,' Maharishi said. In Vedic Science, Maharishi has brought to light the subjective approach to Natural Law. He said that Maharishi University of Natural Law provides a complete and integrated system of education in which both the objective and subjective approaches to gaining knowledge find their fulfilment. 'It is not possible on the objective level to comprehend the vast Totality of Natural Law,' Maharishi explained. 'But by enlivening the total potential of Natural Law in his awareness through the Transcendental Meditation and Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, the student will be able to assimilate fully the structure of Natural Law revealed through the disciplines of modern science.' The curriculum of Maharishi University of Natural Law has the ability to enliven directly the total potential of Natural Law in the student's awareness, making the total potential of Natural Law a living reality in his life. Maharishi said that in order to comprehend the holistic value of the totality of Natural Law, it is necessary to transcend the limitations of the ordinary language of the disciplines of modern science, which provide intellectual understanding of Natural Law, and to experience the more profound and holistic 'language of Nature,' in which the total potential of Natural Law can be comprehended on its own level. Scientific research on Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation and Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme has shown that the experience of pure consciousness produces maximum refinement and enlivenment of consciousness and the nervous system, leading to improved health, reversal of ageing, and improved psychology. 'At the same time,' Maharishi said, 'this experience allows the individual to experience directly the Laws of Nature in consciousness, so that life is lived in accordance with the full potential of Natural Law. 'The field of the total potential of Natural Law is maximally enlivened by the group dynamics of consciousness—the group practice of the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme—producing an influence of maximum coherence in the environment.' In 1974 it was discovered that when one per cent of a population of a city or country practises the Transcendental Meditation Programme, crime rate decreases. This phenomenon was therefore named the 'Maharishi Effect'. Research has shown that this effect of coherence is intensified when a group of individuals practises the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme together: just one per cent of the population practising the group dynamics of consciousness is sufficient to create a powerful influence of coherence in society. 'The principle on which the group dynamics of consciousness is based is clearly seen in the functioning of coherence systems in physics,' Maharishi explained. 'When even a small percentage of the elements of a system are functioning coherently, the coherent effect produced is enough to override the incoherent effect produced by the other elements in the system.
