Astronomy and Maharishi’s Science of Creative Intelligence At Estes Park, Colorado, USA, in November 1970, scientists spoke with Maharishi about the expansion of the universe. In the astrophysical view at that time, they said that the universe has been evolving from a state of simplicity to a state of ever-increasing complexity since its origin 10-15 billion years ago. The scientists explained that when a star begins to expand, its interior contracts and becomes more dense, while its outer layers expand more and more. Maharishi responded that outer expansion is possible on the basis of inner contraction. 'Maintaining the inner means going beyond the finest value to unboundedness,' he said. 'That unboundedness then becomes the ground for unlimited expansion. 'The outer value of life expands to infinity as the inner value of awareness contracts to infinity; this relationship between inner and outer maintains life in infinity.' Maharishi said that the Vedic formula or expression Yogastah kuru karmani, 'Established in Being perform action,' expresses the principle of simultaneous development of both the inner and outer phases of life. That is why we alternate going in and and out, Transcendental Meditation and action. 'The ultimate reality of life is expressed as Anoraniyan Mahahato-mahiyan (Katha Upanishad, 1.2.20), "That which is finer than the finest is bigger than the biggest." In this sequence of expression the inner value comes first because it is closest to us, and by creating inner expansion to infinity we secure outer expansion of infinity,' Maharishi said. ' "Anoraniyan" means finer than the finest, or transcendental, and "Mahato-mahiyan" means bigger than the biggest or transcendental. Transcend the biggest, transcend the smallest, and there is the truth of life in eternity.' The same law of outer expansion by virtue of inner contraction applies to both cosmic life and individual life, Maharishi explained. 'This is because the same Creative Intelligence is working on both the cosmic and individual levels.' The science of astronomy presents the knowledge of the entire evolutionary process of cosmic life, and this evolution of cosmic life is parallel to the evolutionary process of individual life experienced through the practice of Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation. Maharishi's Science of Creative Intelligence is the science of inner life and at the same time, the science of outer life, because both inner and outer together constitute reality. 'Astronomy, which is the study of the activity of cosmic Creative Intelligence, is therefore an aspect of the Science of Creative Intelligence,' Maharishi said. 'Every field of study is an aspect of the Science of Creative Intelligence because the Science of Creative Intelligence is the basic science of life through which one becomes efficient in all fields of knowledge and action, resulting in maximum achievement and fulfilment in life.' © Copyright 2009 Global Good News®
