Consciousness-Based Education is a scientifically proven educational approach to directly develop the creative potential of the students as they are gaining knowledge of the different disciplines. This is achieved by developing the latent potential of the brain, increasing the students' learning ability, intelligence, creativity, and happiness; by reducing stress and anxiety.
The four main components of Consciousness-Based Schools are:
Courses on consciousness
Students practise the Transcendental Meditation program twice daily at school, and after a few months, the Transcendental Meditation Sidhi program, including Yogic Flying. Naturally they begin to express more of their unlimited potential in daily life.
Students also study consciousness through courses that integrate all aspects of life and fields of study with their personal experience of developing consciousness.
Study of the standard subjects in light of the knowledge of consciousness
Students take the standard courses of mathematics, science, arts, and humanities, with the unique addition that the main ideas of every lesson are related to the knowledge of their own consciousness, which makes the study of each subject relevant and more fulfilling.
Consciousness-Based teaching techniques that make learning more meaningful
Unique principles of instruction connect objective knowledge of the disciplines with the students' subjective growth. For example, teachers use large wall charts to show the main ideas of the lesson connected to the whole subject and to its basis, the unbounded field of the student's own intelligence.
Stress-free routine and healthy atmosphere
Consciousness-Based schools emphasize a balanced, healthy routine that includes meditation, academic classes, sports and creative activities, and no heavy homework.
Boys and girls are educated in separate schools, which helps them easily focus on unfolding their full intelligence and unique talents.
The buildings are designed according to architectural principles in harmony with natural law. The atmosphere radiates peace, vitality, openness—an ideal atmosphere for learning and growth.
Quotes from Principals, Teachers, and Parents about Consciousness-Based Education
'As Principal of the school, I see the effects of Transcendental Meditation on the students every day. They are eager to learn and open to all the knowledge. They enjoy and are happy, and have a natural respect for each other and their teachers.'
—Principal, Consciousness-Based school, the Netherlands
'In students we have seen the TM program enhance study skills, academic performance, critical thinking skills, and interpersonal and social skills. Our staff was taught the TM technique for the mental and physical health benefits that result in the work environment with the release of stress. We are looking forward to more schools and work environments realizing that not much gets done until stress is out of the way.'
—School Principal, Michigan, USA
'Although the students come from diverse backgrounds, they have one thing in common as they continue in this school: they have greater self-awareness and seem to think at a deeper level.'
—Teacher, Consciousness-Based school, Australia
'The students from Kindergarten through the upper grades [observed in the Consciousness-Based school in Iowa] have the longest attention span of any I've seen in my 30 years of teaching and educational research.'
—Professor of Science Education, USA
'Consciousness-Based schools invest in rest. Teachers are given the most effective means of staying rested. The dividend is that we don't burn out. The difference is tremendous in terms of feeling revived, rejuvenated, for the next class, the next day, the next year.'
—Secondary school teacher, Iowa, USA
'I would recommend Consciousness-Based education to any parent. My daughter is getting better grades and is happier at home. It's just comforting to a mother's heart to know that there is some self-reliance, like a protective shield, as her child goes out to the world.'
—Parent, Iowa USA
