The “Change Begins Within” fundraising concert for the David Lynch Foundation on April 4th in New York City raised well over a million dollars to teach the Transcendental Meditation technique to at-risk school children and created extensive media coverage with over 3000 articles and numerous television spots.
In addition to Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Donovan, and Jerry Seinfeld, participating stars included Sheryl Crow, Moby, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, Ben Harper, Jim James, Bettye LaVette, Paul Horn, Laura Dern, Mike Love, Howard Stern, Angelo Badalamenti, and Russell Simmons.
Director and MUM trustee David Lynch, who inspired the performers to donate their services, produced the entire four-hour concert.
Simultaneously, the David Lynch Foundation Television launched its website with backstage interviews of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and others.
Heather Hartnett, Director of Communications for DLF.TV, who conducted the interviews said “The atmosphere was electrifying. All the artists had genuine interest in giving children the experience of the TM technique. They were very excited and it showed in the performances.”
Mr. Lynch created DLF.TV to “celebrate consciousness, creativity and bliss.” The concert generated over 250 articles on DLF.TV and tens of thousands of people downloaded the backstage webcast.
The full interviews with each artist will be available during the coming weeks. The site also features a daily video blog of Mr. Lynch and artwork produced by students who learned the TM technique through the David Lynch Foundation.
“We want to be the showcase of the Foundation,” said Ms. Hartnett. The DLF.TV team, which mostly consists of Maharishi Univerisity of Management alumni and students, is also working on artist profiles, exclusive performances by musicians and artists, live concerts, and documentaries on the efforts of the Foundation to teach one million children the TM technique.
