MUM introduces online distance education program

Maharishi University of Management is launching an online distance education program on December 14, offering the University’s courses to people all around the world and making Consciousness-Based education available to those not able to come to MUM.

The first course to be offered is Maharishi Self-Pulse Reading taught by Dr. Paul Morehead, chair of the Department of Physiology and Health and associate dean of Maharishi College of Perfect Health. “We are currently teaching the Maharishi Self-Pulse Reading course online to students in Switzerland with great success through a collaboration with Maharishi University of Vedic Medicine,” said Dr. Morehead. “Now many more individuals will be able to gain this profound, practical knowledge at their own pace in their own homes.”

Online courses are available to the general public either for credit or non-credit. The courses include video lectures by MUM professors, talks by Maharishi, and videoconferences with faculty members. Using an internet-based interactive course management system, students can submit their homework, complete self-evaluation forms, ask questions and receive feedback from professors, and take exams.

The University is planning to offer an increasing number of its courses online, including Dr. John Hagelin’s Fundamentals of Physics and Cosmology course, and the Maharishi Yoga Asana course. The online distance education program will offer degree programs starting next fall with an MS in Integrative Medicine for licensed healthcare practitioners.

“We are very fortunate that Perry Bedinger has joined MUM as associate dean of Distance Education to spearhead the project,” said Dr. Dennis Heaton, dean of Distance Education and International Programs. “He brings a wealth of experience from Harvard Business School.”

As director of International Accounts and Distribution at Harvard Business Publishing, Mr. Bedinger promoted online management development programs, distance education courses, and other learning media internationally. His goal is to establish a similarly successful online educational presence for MUM.
