Maharishi University of Management mathematics professor Cathy Gorini recently returned from a trip to Thailand, where she taught fundamentals of mathematics to the students of the Chantaburi campus of the Rajapark College run by the Mother Divine Program. The course presented topics in algebra, logic, and set theory enriched by the perspective of Maharishi Vedic Science.
“I was very impressed with the students of Rajapark College,” Dr. Gorini said. “I found that their understanding of consciousness helped them understand very deep mathematical concepts. At the end of the course, they gave presentations that connected the mathematical concepts to Maharishi Vedic Science in a very deep and lively way.”
One of the students said, “I realize mathematics is the finest expression of the Self, so that I am not afraid of studying math anymore.” Another student said, “With the exercises that we work on our own, the knowledge is really being understood well, synthesized, and stabilized.”
Dr. Gorini has also just published a revised edition of The Facts On File Geometry Handbook, a reference work for middle and high school students, which explains the fundamental concepts of geometry, gives a timeline of important events in the history of geometry from the construction of the pyramids to the present, and includes biographies of more than 300 mathematicians. “This is the most complete reference in geometry that I have ever seen and it belongs in every library, both public and academic,” said reviewer Charles Ashbacher in the Journal of Recreational Mathematics.
Dr. Gorini, who has been teaching at MUM for 31 years, is both Dean of Faculty at MUM and Dean of Maharishi College of Enlightenment. Her awards for teaching include the Outstanding College Teaching Award from the Mathematical Association of America.
She is currently preparing a new book titled Master Math Probability to be published by Cengage Learning in 2011.
