Ever since he learned the Transcendental Meditation technique in 1991, David Pohlman wanted to receive a Ph.D. from Maharishi University of Management (MUM) . He also wanted to become a professor. He has achieved both and became assistant professor of Maharishi Vedic Science at MUM.

Dr. Pohlman received a B.A. in philosophy from Miami University, Ohio, in 1994 and came to MUM in 1995 as a graduate student to study Maharishi Vedic Science. He received his masters degree and then, in 2004, received his Ph.D., specializing in reading Vedic Literature in Sanskrit four hours a day for three years. Along the way he has taught both graduate and undergraduate courses in Maharishi Vedic Science, including Ideal Administration, the Bhagavad Gita, and Reading Vedic Literature.

“I love teaching the courses here because our students are the best,” said Dr. Pohlman. “They come from all over the world and they all have that spark in them. It’s fun to see how they grow and change.”

After receiving his Ph.D., Dr. Pohlman served four years as Dean of Men, for which he received a Maharishi Award in the area of Education and Enlightenment.

In 2009, another long-time dream became fulfilled when Dr. Pohlman completed the Transcendental Meditation Teacher Training Course and was invited to be a full-time teacher at the Beverly Hills Maharishi Invincibility Center in California.

“There is nothing higher I could ever do for another human being than to teach them how to transcend,” he said. “Maharishi made it so perfect and it works every time.”

Dr. Pohlman’s goal is to teach the Transcendental Meditation technique to as many people as he can, at least 40 a month. He also hopes to work with schools in the Los Angeles area. He enjoys dividing his time between teaching TM in California and teaching Vedic Science at MUM.
