David Nayan was born in Colombia and moved to Fairfield at age eight. He attended Maharishi School and received a B.A. in Business Administration from Maharishi University of Management along with an Outstanding Business Student Award and the first Dr. Tony Nader award. David has always been interested in leadership — he served as student body president both at Maharishi School and MUM. He became a Teacher of the Transcendental Meditation technique and taught 800 children in the last four years. In 2008 he was presented the MUM Ideal Alumni Award.
After graduating, David worked in banking for a few years, then moved back to Colombia to work in his family’s business. Then, driven by the desire to serve his country, he decided to enter politics. He began pursuing a master’s degree in political science and in 2005 he ran for the Colombian Senate. His campaign focused on introducing scientifically proven techniques in education for developing youth potential and creativity. He gained the support of a leading senator and the help of the top political publicist in the country. Even though he didn’t win the election, he gained votes from every state and the President implemented some of his proposals.
David considers his experience of the group practice of the TM-Sidhi program to be the most important aspect of his education. “What makes me attractive to an employer, to a business person, or to a politician who wants someone young and fresh, is that consciousness that I developed in the Dome,” he said. “Being required to meditate at university was invaluable.
It was good at a formative stage in my life to have that.”
In 2008, David moved to Vlodrop, Holland, and has been working as Latin American Director of Education for the Global Country of World Peace assisting Raja Luis in developing educational activities in Latin America. Their work has benefited more than 100,000 children and established groups that practice the TM and TM-Sidhi programs including Yogic Flying in schools, prisons, and the military.
