Liis Mattik, a native of Estonia, received her BS in biology with a specialization in Maharishi Ayur-Veda in 1996 from Maharishi Vedic University in Naberezhnie Chelny, Tatarstan, Russia. Then she worked as a Maharishi Ayur-Veda health consultant and teacher of the Transcendental Meditation technique in Estonia, Russia, Latvia, and Norway. She came to MUM in 1997 to expand her knowledge of Maharishi Ayur-Veda and enjoy the large group practice of the TM-Sidhi program.

Over the past 14 years, Dr. Mattik has earned four degrees from MUM: an MA in the Science of Creative Intelligence, a BA in Maharishi Consciousness-Based Health Care, an MS in physiology, and this year, a PhD in physiology. At the same time, she has worked as an international admissions representative, a member of the faculty, and a Maharishi Ayur-Veda health consultant.

“I couldn’t imagine my life without the TM and TM-Sidhi programs and the knowledge of Maharishi Ayur-Veda,” she said. “This total knowledge gives me support of nature. I stay rested and healthy, and the right things happen. I gain the energy and vitality to accomplish my goals and live a fulfilled life.”

Dr. Mattik’s PhD dissertation focused on the aging process and her research showed that the practice of the Transcendental Meditation program combined with appropriate diet and physical activity was effective in reducing allostatic load—the cumulative effect of stress that causes accelerated aging.

Dr. Mattik is most proud of the Ideal Administrator and Maharishi Awards she has received from students. “It’s very fulfilling to work with MUM students because they are very appreciative when their personal growth is supported,” she said.

“It was a great pleasure to be in Diet, Digestion and Nutrition with Liis Mattik,” said student Janet McDonald. “I was very impressed with her comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter and her ability to convey it so thoroughly to the class. She is a jewel among the MUM faculty.”

Dr. Mattik is now an adjunct faculty member at MUM and continues to give consultations at the campus health clinic.
