As of early this month 174 new students had arrived on campus at Maharishi University of Management, Fairfield Iowa, USA, with 70 of those indicating an interest in Maharishi Vedic Science as the focus of their studies.
According to Chris Taft, director of US admissions, 30 of the 108 new undergrads indicated an interest in majoring in Maharishi Vedic Science while 40 master's and PhD students will do their graduate work in this area.
The increased interest is the result of a new approach by Admissions officers to speak in detail about what makes MUM special right from the very first conversation with a prospective student.
"We're very bold in speaking about Maharishi's knowledge right up front," said Admissions officer Adrienne Schoenfeld. "Their education begins with the first contact. It's bringing us students."
She said they are fascinated by what they hear. "There's something that resonates with them."
Admissions counselors recommend that interested students read Maharishi's book Science of Being. They also tell prospective students about the TM-Sidhi program and that they can help contribute to world peace through
the group practice of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programs.
"They want a tool to help the world," Ms. Schoenfeld said. "There's been a shift of consciousness in society. There are thousands who want this education."
Ms. Schoenfeld said the question prospective students ask most frequently is, "Why haven't I heard about this before?"
