Maharishi University of Management now has 62 students participating in MUM degree programs in South Africa.

Since September a group of 28 students at the Maharishi Invincibility Institute (MII) in Johannesburg, South Africa, have been taking courses taught by MUM faculty through distance education. The classes are conducted through the Adobe Connect videoconferencing system and MUM's learning management system.

This program is a collaboration between MUM and MII. Ayako Huang, MUM assistant professor of management, is the program coordinator and student advisor for MUM students at MII. Students who are now taking the MUM courses have already completed the first part of their BA degree through courses taken locally in South Africa.

Since May 2011 MUM has also been teaching undergraduate and graduate business courses to 34 students through a project for Neotel, a South African telecommunications company. This includes two staff from Maharishi Institute who are studying for MBA degrees.

This project is also a partnership with MII. Live videoconference classes connect simultaneously to Neotel offices in Midrand, Johannesburg, Capetown, and Durban. Project manager Adri-Mari Vilonel, a South African Transcendental Meditation teacher and business consultant, is coordinating between MUM and Neotel.

Neotel provides a range of voice, Internet, and data services for business, wholesale network operators, network providers, and consumers. Part of the Tata Group of companies, Neotel has previously contributed an Internet café at MII as part of its social responsibility investments in South Africa.

Maharishi Institute CEO Taddy Blecher said this corporate school is just the kind of management development program that Maharishi Mahesh Yogi had planned with Maharishi Institute to support the growth of invincibility for South Africa.

"These successful programs demonstrate that MUM can deliver our business degree programs anywhere in the world," said Dennis Heaton, MUM dean of international programs.
