Undergraduate student Donna Jones enrolled in Maharishi University of Management because developing her full potential is her highest priority, and she plans to get Ph.D. in mathematics.

Second-year student Donna Jones grew up in Staten Island, New York, and has practiced the Transcendental Meditation technique since the age of five. Donna was set to attend a top university in North Carolina; however, during her senior year in high school, she realized that developing her full potential was her highest priority, so she enrolled at Maharishi University of Management.

Donna is a mathematics major and her experience with the math courses at MUM along with the support of the mathematics department inspired her to earn a graduate degree in math. “Having the Maharishi Vedic Science Main Points Charts really enriches the whole experience of learning because we are no longer learning an outside body of knowledge, rather, the reflection of our subjective selves,” said Donna.

Donna enjoys the MUM community and the healthy lifestyle it supports. Last summer, she completed the TM-Sidhi program and she feels her routine is helping her realize one of her goals at MUM: to establish a lifelong inner state of happiness.

In her free time, Donna serves as the mathematics department’s tutor. “My teaching abilities are improving and I am learning along with my students,” she said.” It’s a gratifying and meaningful job.”

After graduating from MUM, Donna wants to pursue a PhD in mathematics and complete the Transcendental Meditation Teacher Training Course. Donna’s parents, Leo and Debra Jones, are both teachers of the Transcendental Meditation technique and she would love to continue in their footsteps.

“Donna has made a big contribution to the mathematics department,” said Anne Dow, chair of the Department of Mathematics. “It is a joy to teach her, since she delights in new mathematical ideas and is willing to spend the time necessary to understand them. I really hope she goes all the way to a PhD in mathematics.”

Donna was recently awarded the Jessamine Verrill Award for her continued dedication to Maharishi’s knowledge and the development of higher states of consciousness, and the Student Appreciation Award for inspiring students to reach their full potential.
