Alexandra Warwick is a second-year student from Champaign, Illinois, who has practiced the Transcendental Meditation technique since the age of 10. She came to Maharishi University of Management (MUM) in February 2011, seven months after graduating from high school. Within the first month, she realized MUM was where she wanted to be. “I have never been anywhere where I could be completely myself with people I just met,” said Alexandra.

Alexandra was home-schooled after the 4th grade and was taking ballet lessons six days a week. She learned the importance of responsibility and a good work ethic in the structured environment of dance school. She also had the opportunity to start teaching ballet at the age of 13. She discovered early on the powerful impact her teachers had on her, which inspired her to study elementary education at MUM and become a school teacher.

MUM’s block system of taking one course at a time helps Alexandra stay focused and improve her retention of each subject. “I love how everything we do is connected back to ourselves so we learn about ourselves before we learn about the world,” Alexandra said.

“Alexandra is an excellent student,” said Christopher Jones, professor of education. “She brings a sunny disposition to every class, and at the same time she puts full attention on her studies. I can already see how she could be a very good leader of young people.”

In her free time, Alexandra teaches ballet and volunteers with Rotaract, MUM’s student community service club. In addition, she serves on the board of Rise Africa, a nonprofit organization focusing on educating children and developing communities in Africa. In the future, Alexandra would like to teach internationally with the goal of empowering disadvantaged children.
