Empowering youth to find their true potential

Jason Aviles was born in the Bronx, New York City, and lived in public housing projects for over 10 years. As a child, he faced many obstacles and negative influences from his environment, but he found the courage to stay true to his heart and overcame his circumstances. He wanted to help young people achieve the same success, so he worked in educational facilities, businesses, and a maximum security youth prison.

He didn’t see his work getting to the root of the problem, so he told his own life story on a speaking tour inspiring young people to find their inner greatness. Soon after, he started the Be You Be Great Youth Program, a not-for-profit organization providing young people with activities and tools to help them discover their true potential.

One day, Jason saw a Facebook ad for Consciousness-Based education and he intuitively decided to explore it. He came to Maharishi University of Management (MUM) in the fall of 2011.

“MUM has raised my awareness of the importance of incorporating the TM technique,” said Jason. “Now I am including TM as one of our programs under the personal growth and development area.”

Jason now works from his MUM base to pilot his youth programs in America. He also teamed up with MUM students to start an Iowa chapter. Jason decided to major in Media and Communications so that he could learn to communicate his vision in a variety of ways through video, posters, and social media.

“There hasn’t been a better place in my life, a conscious, aware environment that supports my dreams in trying to bring clarity to what it is I want to do and bring to the world,” said Jason.

Jason hopes to partner with the David Lynch Foundation to implement the Transcendental Meditation technique in his BUBGreat youth centers.
