Dhammajarinee Witthaya Free School in Thailand has helped hundreds of girls, who otherwise would have had no opportunity to go to school, get a kindergarten to 12th grade education. It presently has over 430 girls. Many come from broken homes. They are often abused, abandoned, or orphans.
Many poor families in Thailand are not able to send their daughters to school, and instead young girls are often employed in degrading occupations putting them at risk of abuse, AIDs, exploitation, depression, and addiction.
Due to socio-economic problems and recent natural disasters, girls in Thailand are more vulnerable than ever before.
Girls excel when given a chance
In Thailand, boys who are poor or orphaned can go to a temple as a novice monk and receive an education. This opportunity has not been available for girls.
Girls who attend Dhammajarinee Witthaya Free School exude inner strength and dignity as young women and future leaders of their communities.
Dhammajarinee Witthaya School provides the most current academic curriculum along with Buddhist teaching. The school trains Buddhist nuns and provides education to any girl who lacks opportunity to go to school.
Young women becoming leaders through education and meditation
This school has 200 students practising Transcendental Meditation and advanced TM programs, and 104 more will have learned by the end of the year.
The Dhammajarinee Witthaya School for girls is highly ranked and greatly respected for its focus on development of character and integrity to help young women become successful leaders, educators and mothers.
Dhammajarinee Witthaya School also teaches girls many skills for everyday living, to generate more self-reliance in accord with principles of sustainability. The school generates a positive attitude of helping others and thereby unfolds their social potential to be a good citizen benefiting their whole society.
More classroom space is needed
The number of girls now wishing to attend Dhammajarinee Witthaya Free School far exceeds the classrooms available. Currently the school has had to turn away girls, who have no opportunity for education, due to lack of classroom space.
There is an urgent need to build a new school building to allow more of these girls to have the chance for a better life.
Donations are being raised for new building would allow for approximately 500 more girls to come. The goal for Thailand is to create a group of 800 students doing group TM practice together everyday for greater peace and coherence in the nation.
This momentous project that will have a major, life-changing impact on the hundreds of girls who graduate from the school every year.
