Brian Glassett is a PhD student and feels it is an honor to be part of the next generation's enlightened leadership at Maharishi University of Management.

PhD student Brian Glassett grew up in New Jersey in a family that practices the Transcendental Meditation technique. He studied music and audio production at Drexel University in Philadelphia with the goal of becoming a record producer. However, his life took a different turn.

“I was writing a lot of music and doing other creative things, but all of it felt empty, because I felt empty,” said Brian. “There was something hollow about the culture that I was a part of there. I was sad to see a lot of suffering all around me. I started to look for answers and eventually came back to Maharishi. That’s when I went on a TM residence course—that really opened something up inside.”

Inspired by his mother, Brian decided to become a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation technique. “As an artist, I wanted to share something of value with the world,” Brian said. “I thought, even if my art falls flat, if I can help people find transcendence, that’s something worthwhile. I chose to create art by living artfully.”

Brian began his new journey in 2010, by enrolling in the MA in Maharishi Vedic Science program at Maharishi University of Management. He realized he had a passion and talent for teaching Maharishi Vedic Science, so after receiving his master’s degree, he immediately entered the PhD program.

During the past year, he served as a teaching assistant twice for the Science and Technology of Consciousness course that all first-year students take as their first course. He also finished his PhD coursework. Now he is about to start his research on higher states of consciousness by reading the Vedic literature in Sanskrit for two-and-a-half years, a practice that has profound effects on physiology and consciousness. In October, he will be teaching his first class on his own in reading the Vedic literature.

In addition, Brian is participating in MUM’s Enlightened Leadership Program. This program aims to train younger faculty and staff for leadership roles in the University. “I don’t know what positions I will occupy in the next five years, but I want to be well-versed in all aspects of leadership so that I am ready,” he said. “It’s an honor to be part of the next generation of this profound organization.”
