Nearly 100 new students arrived this fall to study in the Maharishi University of Management (MUM) Computer Professionals program—the largest entry in over five years.
The group, which comes from 26 different countries, includes 17 who came in August and 81 who arrived last month.
The total of 98 is the largest fall enrollment since 105 students arrived in February of 2008.
According to Greg Clarke-Johnsen, head of admissions for the Computer Professionals program, there are various reasons that could account for the increase.
The improving economic climate may have encouraged more students to apply, since their academic program entails a practicum in which they are placed in a paying position at a U.S. company.
He also said that a reason more of the applicants were able to get visas to study at MUM is the efforts of Bill Goldstein, MUM director of Global Development, who has met with personnel at various embassies to educate them about what the Computer Professionals program has to offer.
And he credited the focused work of the dedicated admissions staff.
The countries represented include 20 students from Ethiopia, 9 from China, 8 from Bangladesh, 7 from Mongolia, 6 from Nepal, and 5 each from Vietnam and Pakistan.
The students spend eight months studying on campus, are placed in a position, and finish their degree via distance education.
