Parents support Maharishi Free School A survey of parents has shown a very high level of satisfaction with Maharishi Free School, Skelmersdale, England. Carried out in January at the start of the school’s second term as a Free School, the survey was proposed and implemented by the mother of one of the new children enrolled last September. Parents were given a questionnaire and the replies to just about every question were 100% positive. In answer to the question, “Are you happy with Maharishi School so far?” 89% of parents said that they were ‘very happy’ and 11% said that they were ‘happy’. Asked if the school met their expectations, 43% felt that the school exceeded their expectations while 57% said that it met their expectations. 80% felt that their child’s experience at Maharishi School was an improvement on that at previous schools and 100% said that they would recommend the school to others. Below are expressions of support for Maharishi Free School from parents: “After finding out about consciousness-based learning I am thrilled that hopefully my son will have the fortune to benefit from such a positive learning environment. I am a teacher myself and was very impressed by the presentations I have seen. . . Too often in schools, children are hurried and bustled along from one lesson to another, from one target to the next. . . I feel that the Maharishi School in Suffolk will offer Billy a place to be fully himself, feel comfortable and fulfil his true potential.” “I have over 15 years teaching experience and have taught in both the state and independent sector, in the UK and abroad. I spent 8 years teaching at one of the top five comprehensive schools in the country. I was thrilled to hear of the possibility of a Maharishi Free School in Suffolk. With its proven track record, and positive approach to teaching and learning, I believe the Maharishi School offers children a unique educational experience. As both a mother and a teacher, I am very keen to find a secondary school that nurtures my children as individuals and teaches them in a calm, purposeful and enjoyable environment. I believe that Consciousness-based Education will enable my children to develop into confident, caring individuals with a strong sense of self-worth and a positive attitude towards life.” “The Maharishi school is like a dream come true for us. . . it meets the needs of so many parents for whom the private sector is too expensive or too pressured but for whom the state schools are too large and impersonal. We . . . feel that an environment which is punctuated by times of stillness and silence can only promote learning and clear-headedness.” “As a parent I strongly believe it is every child’s entitlement to learn in a calm environment. . . . I learned TM over twenty years ago and have full confidence that if every child in the school meditates there will not be any negativity towards learning and the respect for everyone within the school will be strong. It is such a simple solution to bring effective learning into schools.” “I was taught TM many years ago. . . . The depth of peace is wonderful and I would so love it for my two boys to experience this.” It is interesting to note that many of the parents who have registered their child for the new Maharishi Free School are themselves school teachers. In light of their experience in both private and state funded schools, they feel that Maharishi Free School offers all-round high quality education with special advantages for children.
