Inaugurated last year to train a new generation of leaders to spread Maharishi's knowledge, the Enlightened Leadership Program has already resulted in notable successes, with efforts now underway to create an international network of young leaders.
Among the first group to participate in the eight-month series of meetings and workshops, student James Wilson (an Iraq war veteran) applied what he learned in an internship this past summer, helping organize a fundraiser in Washington, DC, for Operation Warrior Wellness.
Mr. Wilson made many media contacts that led to positive news coverage, was interviewed on TV, and connected with some top military leaders such as Lt. General Clarence McKnight to help make the event a big success.
Founded by the David Lynch Foundation, Operation Warrior Wellness supports teaching the Transcendental Meditation technique to veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
"It's impressive what James has accomplished in his time at MUM and through his participation in the leadership program," said Adrienne Schoenfeld, who has been instrumental in creating the program.
The first group of leaders are applying their skills by implementing new initiatives for the growth of MUM and the global Transcendental Meditation organization. Their focus includes connecting via Skype with other young people internationally who practice the Transcendental Meditation technique, to create a network of young leaders around the globe. The Ambassador Program is a collaborative network that supports existing programs—while perfecting and growing the participants leadership skills through implementing innovative new projects for their countries.
Ms. Schoenfeld said the leadership program would provide a structure in which the junior leaders work with the senior leadership in those countries by supporting the efforts of the national leaders.
"By developing and connecting the next generation of enlightened leaders from around the globe who deeply value Maharishi's knowledge and want to be a part of creating growth, this new Ambassador Program serves as the vehicle to support their desire," Ms. Schoenfeld said.
