At Maharishi University of Management, over 60 students are enrolled in two new online master's programs that launched this fall.
That total includes 33 in the MS in Maharishi AyurVeda and Integrative Medicine and 28 taking courses in the MA in Maharishi Vedic Science.
While master's courses in Maharishi Vedic Science have previously been offered online, this fall was the first opportunity students had to officially enroll in the MA.
"The response has been good," said Cheryl Michie, director of online distance education. "The students really like the classes."
Both programs deliver their courses via the Sakai learning platform. An instructional designer works with faculty to develop each course using best practices for online education. The online platform includes recorded lectures, discussion forums, and links to submit homework, as well as live webinars.
Ms. Michie said the participants in the webinars use webcams, such that the faculty and students can see—and get to know—each other.
The Maharishi AyurVeda courses are 12 weeks long, and Maharishi Vedic Science 10 weeks. While students must submit their work on a regular schedule, they can view the lectures during the week at their convenience.

Ms. Michie said the department is also hoping to begin offering short, affordable, non-credit online courses.
