Maharishi University of Management (MUM) student Paean Lee was born in Hong Kong and when she was eight years old moved to California. Her parents brought Paean and her three siblings to the U.S. in search of a holistic education.
MUM was a natural choice for Paean and she immediately embraced Consciousness-Based education: "In my old school, we used to meditate," she said. "I wanted to continue meditating and I really enjoy TM," she said. A lifelong vegetarian, she was also happy to discover that MUM's cafeteria would meet her needs.
As a small child, Paean enjoyed weekly visits to a farm, which cultivated in her a love of growing things. After spending two summers doing a natural building internship, she felt inspired to continue learning about sustainability through MUM's Sustainable Living major. She is excited about the hands-on nature of the classes and the many field trips the program offers.
"My dream is to have my own permaculture homestead, be self-sufficient, and grow my own food," said Paean. "I am interested in every aspect of sustainability: energy, agriculture, as well as inspiring others. I really want to help the planet."
In her free time, Paean plays the violin and sings in MUM's Creative Music Ensemble. She also enjoys crafts, cooking, and baking.
"Paean is a joy to have in our Creative Music Ensemble," said Kaeli Ferguson, instructor of music. "She's very creative and motivated to rehearse with the group. Paean is always ready for a challenge and enthusiastic to meet it head on. Whether she's playing the violin or singing with the group, it is obvious that she loves performing."
