John Ikerd, a visiting professor at Maharishi University of Management in the Sustainable Living Department, gave a presentation last month in Rome at the Global Dialog on Family Farming, which was sponsored by the United Nations.
At the meeting Dr. Ikerd presented a book chapter he was invited to write by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. The forthcoming book by the FAO examines family farm issues around the globe.
Dr. Ikerd's chapter is about family farm issues in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The U.N. has designated 2014 as the Year of the Family Farm.
"It's a real honor that John was invited to analyze and comment on family farm issues in North America for the U.N.," said Sustainable Living professor Lonnie Gamble.
A professor emeritus at the University of Missouri, Dr. Ikerd moved to Fairfield two years ago.
He is the author of seven books, including The Essentials of Economic Sustainability, Sustainable Capitalism, and Small Farms Are Real Farms.
