Three visitors from Ukraine arrived late in September to seek advice from Maharishi University of Management (MUM) faculty about structuring scientific research on the Transcendental Meditation technique in Ukraine.
Their goal is to inspire public understanding and acceptance of the value of the Transcendental Meditation technique for reducing stress in individuals, and reducing conflict and strife in their nation.
All three are teachers of the Transcendental Meditation technique and are affiliated with the Dragomanov National Pedagogical University in Kiev, where they've created the Laboratory for Innovative Rehabilitation Technologies for the purpose of conducting research on the Transcendental Meditation technique. They intend to document the benefits of the Transcendental Meditation technique in the areas of improved academic performance, reduced anxiety, and relief from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Based on their good relations with leaders in the government, they are confident that if they can show the results of research conducted in their own country, the government of Ukraine will support the introduction of the Transcendental Meditation technique into the nation's educational system.
The Ukrainian visitors said that once the government officially approves the Transcendental Meditation technique for use in schools and universities, their laboratory can advance to departmental status at Dragomanov, which will make them eligible to receive more funding from the university as well as research grants from the European Union.
The group met with MUM President Dr. Bevan Morris and faculty members to learn more about implementing Consciousness-Based education curricula and the possibility of student exchange programs with MUM.
Their goal is to have all faculty, students, and staff at Dragomanov National Pedagogical University practice the Transcendental Meditation technique.
The primary mission of Dragomanov is to train school teachers and college professors, so they envision that their graduates will be instrumental in introducing the Transcendental Meditation technique and Maharishi's knowledge to students nationwide.
While on campus the visitors signed a memorandum of understanding under which MUM will give advisory assistance to Dragomanov University for Transcendental Meditation research and other academic exchange.
They plan to have the rector of Dragomanov visit MUM in November to further discuss collaboration between the two universities.
