Computer science masters student at Maharishi University of Management Asaad Saad learned to play music before he became interested in programming. He began his musical education at age 10 and learned the violin at the Aleppo Music Institute in Syria, where he and his two siblings studied with Russian music teachers after school. Later he joined the Aleppo Chamber Orchestra.
“My goal is to help people around me discover the meaning of our lives, and how we are united as humans,” said Asaad. “I think music helps us to expand ourselves, look to our problems from a different perspective, and cope better with life. I like to make people around me happy. It doesn't matter if it's through music or a piece of software I will create!”
Asaad studied computer science at the University of Aleppo and discovered that programming was fun, just like music. “It feels like I'm the composer and the computer plays my code,” he said.
Asaad specializes in Web development and in Syria he worked for souq.com, a leading e-commerce company. In 2006 he moved to the United Arab Emirates and worked for the Abu Dhabi Police Department developing and maintaining government websites and e-services.
Asaad kept music as a hobby, and when he moved to Abu Dhabi he joined the UAE Philharmonic Orchestra and later the UAE National Symphony Orchestra. He played concerts all around the UAE with an international group of musicians. Even though classical music is his favorite, Asaad also uses his computer skills to record digital music.
Asaad choose MUM because the MS in computer science program offers the latest subjects in Web development as well as financial aid to international students. He also hopes to grow in knowledge and personal development in order to uplift people.
“Through Consciousness-Based education, we are discovering the field of pure consciousness within ourselves as the source of all knowledge,” said Asaad. “We are cultivating our total potential from within. Day by day, we are developing our creativity, our learning ability, our ability to see the big picture, our ability to relate to others.”
Asaad continues to play music on the MUM campus and only three weeks after his arrival he performed a violin concert with fellow student Paean Lee.
