Nahshon Yisrael grew up in the South Side of Chicago. He and his twin sister Naamee heard about Maharishi University of Management (MUM) from a cousin, and the siblings came to a Visitors Weekend in 2012. Naamee wanted to enroll at MUM, and Nahshon, who is very close to his sister, followed.
Nahshon has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. In high school he started a company selling T-shirts and hats. He always dreamed of working for himself, so he decided to major in business. He says that the classes at MUM provide relevant and up-to-date knowledge.
“I could not have gotten better value out of any business program anywhere else in the country,” he said. “Consciousness-Based education helps you to understand the value of the information you are learning. It helps to see the underlying knowledge of everything that surrounds us.”
For part of his childhood Nahshon was homeschooled by his mother, and he developed the habit of independent learning. “I love taking risks,” he said. “I learn by doing. I don’t mind failing. You don’t lose; you learn something.” During his time at MUM so far, he participated in a national mediation tournament in which his team came in third, worked as a counselor in a summer camp in Illinois, and began helping others develop their businesses.
“Nahshon has a brilliant mind, a generous heart, and great enthusiasm,” said Vicki Herriott, chair of the management department. “He will be a success at whatever he chooses to do.”
Nahshon is graduating in June and already has a number of plans. He wants to take some time to travel, then apply to law school, and eventually create a media company. His goal is to help all the artists among his friends and family to produce their creative work, including music and film. He feels that knowledge of business and law, as well as creativity, are all important in building the business of his dreams.
