The unique offering of Maharishi AyurVeda, which encompasses theory, research, and clinical application, is meriting increasing national and international attention, including presentations by Dr. Robert Schneider at events at Harvard University, the European Society of Hypertension in Milan, and the International Ayurveda Congress in London.

In April, Dr. Schneider, dean of Maharishi University of Management's College of Integrative Medicine, was invited to give an opening keynote address at Harvard along side India's Minister of Ayurveda and Yoga at a conference on integrating Yoga and Ayurveda into mainstream medicine.

In his address, Dr. Schneider explained that there's a healing intelligence within everyone that can be enlivened through Yoga and Ayurveda. He noted that this has been empirically verified through the effects of the Transcendental Meditation technique on the brain, body, and health, and from the ancient Ayurvedic texts that link mind and body to consciousness.

Dr. Schneider is also scheduled to lead a first-ever session on the use of meditation to treat and prevent hypertension at the annual meeting of the European Society for Hypertension on June 19 in Milan, Italy. He was invited by the president of the society, which is exploring non-drug treatments for hypertension.

Ayurveda was the focus of two additional recent conferences that involved Dr. Schneider and other MUM faculty. At the Second International Congress in London in April, there was extensive discussion of Consciousness-Based approaches to contemporary health problems.

"This is the specialty of Maharishi University of Management (MUM), and there is increasing recognition internationally," Dr. Schneider said. "We're not only able to present the theory but also show the scientific validation and report on the clinical experience."

Those giving plenary addresses included President John Hagelin, Dr. Schneider, and professors Keith Wallace and John Fagan.

Also, a national conference on Ayurveda was held on campus in April, with over 100 participants coming from around the world to learn more about the unique approach of Maharishi AyurVeda.
